The NACA airfoils are airfoil shapes for aircraft wings developed by the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics (NACA). The shape of the NACA airfoils is described using a series of digits following the word “NACA”. The parameters in the numerical code can be entered into equations to precisely generate the cross-section of the airfoil and calculate its properties.
In this first tutorial, you will learn to generate a NACA Airfoil 4412 using Ansys DesignModeler.

Import from Autodesk Inventor to Ansys DesignModeler
Autodesk Inventor is a comprehensive and flexible set of software for 3D mechanical design, simulation, tooling creation, and design communication.

Ansys DesignModeler – Ansys Beta Options (Solid Extension)
By default, System Coupling’s beta features are not activated. When beta features are activated, the corresponding settings are added to the data model and are available for use.

Ansys DesignModeler – Connect
The Connect feature may be used to align and possibly join a set of vertices, edges or faces. The alignment takes the form of a stretching and aligning of existing geometry.
Ansys DesignModeler – Mid-Surface
The Mid-Surface feature allows the creation of Surface bodies that are midway between existing Solid body faces. The resulting surface body/bodies have a Thickness property which defines the “thickness” that surface body represents.
Ansys DesignModeler – Symmetry
The Symmetry feature is a tool used to define a symmetry model. The feature takes either all the bodies or selected bodies of the model as input and accepts up to three symmetry planes. You can choose either full or partial models to work with. If a full model is used, the selected symmetry planes will slice off the model and only a portion of the model will be retained.
Ansys DesignModeler – Enclosure
The Enclosure feature is a tool used to enclose the bodies of a model so that the material enclosing the bodies can be assigned to something such as a gas or fluid in the ANSYS Mechanical application.
Ansys DesignModeler – Pipes Y-Shaped/T-Shaped
The ANSYS DesignModeler application is designed to be used as a geometry editor of existing CAD models. The ANSYS DesignModeler application is a parametric feature-based solid modeler designed so that you can intuitively and quickly begin drawing 2D sketches, modeling 3D parts, or uploading 3D CAD models for engineering analysis preprocessing.
Ansys DesignModeler – Offset Surface
The Offset function allows you to create a set of lines and arcs that are offset by an equal distance from an existing set of “straight” lines and “circular” arcs. The original set of lines and arcs must be connected in a simple end-to-end fashion and can form either an open or closed profile.
