Ansys Meshing - Method

Written by cfd.ninja

The mesh method is chosen per body, which means a model with several bodies can mix strategies: hexahedra by sweeping where the geometry allows it, tetrahedra with inflation where it does not.

Automatic sweeps whatever is sweepable and falls back to tetrahedra elsewhere. Patch Conforming respects every edge and face of the geometry, while Patch Independent works from the volume inward and tolerates small defects in the CAD model. MultiZone decomposes the body by itself and fills the regular parts with hexahedra.

When bodies meshed with different methods share an interface, group them into a single part in DesignModeler or SpaceClaim so the nodes match across the boundary. Without that, you end up with a non conformal interface that the solver has to interpolate across.
